Project Notes
Few golf course architects alive or dead can match the impact Brian Silva enjoys in Greater Palm Beach. Having transformed the ancient Ocean links beside The Breakers Hotel, Silva was subsequently retained to refurbish the nearby Everglades Club (Seth Raynor) before being summoned to Palm Beach CC (Donald Ross).
“These weren’t restorations,” Silva says. “There was nothing there in terms of landforms, owing to the flat, sandy sites continually buffeted by wind and storms. And if we had original plans, which we did not, neither Raynor nor Ross could have anticipated what modern players require today… ‘Tranformation’ is a better for what we accomplished at Palm Beach Country Club especially. By introducing strategic design character to the course, we changed the way that members regard their own course. That’s rare, but it speaks to the blank slate we inherited, save a single ridge, and the quality of the finished product we created.”
